She's back, bringing tons of saxiness and "...dem sumn deh".
You'll remember our epic feature on Nyanda Thorbourn of Brick and Lace last summer with her single "slippery when wet".. Well Ny is back at it again with "I love Sax". The thorbourne ladies are known for their brilliance in writing hit records and #Sax is no exception. In a world where "cross over is the staple statement for 'ambitious' artists nowadays, #IloveSax has a distinctively different sound. Its Spice Girls meets Maddona meets Dancehall queen without the usual compromise on originality. One can't help but breaking out into a vogue sess' when this track comes on, the Europeans will have a field day when this hits the clubs."
I'm no music aficionado but I know what i like and I know as soon as I hear it. I love Sax is real concept music, from the first line to the last the lyrics are solid, relatable, witty and %100 genius. Its the kind of project that leaves you wondering; "Why didn't anyone think of this before?". But I have questions of my own so without no further ado, here's Nyanda on inspiration, production and her summer music plans.
"I LOVE my Jamaican fans!"
Rashade St Patrick: Lets talk concept, where did the inspiration come from for this record?
NYANDA: I was feeling sexy and playful in the studio and the track had a saxophone riff in it so we played on words "i love sax" to express my naughty nature. RSTP: Is this a part of a larger project (EP, Mixtape etc.) or is it just a single? (If it is a part of a larger project please expound) NYANDA: "I love sax" is the second single from my album coming out later this year. "Slippery when wet" was the first. They can be purchased now on itunes. I am looking to release an album later this year. RSTP: Shooting this video must've been so much fun, what was the best thing about being on this set? NYANDA: Yes, shooting this video was fun. The energy on set was so cool. With the "Sax" video I just wanted to showcase swag...I wanted people to see ME... and see what my personality is really like. One of my outfits was a throwback to the 90's era of dancehall...a kind of female Supercat style. Another look was very Madonna-esque. So it showcased different sides of me. We found this crazy dancer on the streets of Miami Beach one day and I said he HAD to be in my video!! I'm really happy the way the video turned out. RSTP: What's team Nyanda's plans for this summer as far as your music goes? NYANDA: Well I just got back from Holland, where I was the only female artist to perform at the FUNX award show. I'll be touring Europe and Africa this summer to promote my singles "I Love Sax" and "Slippery When Wet" and I'm scheduled to make a stop in Jamaica!!!!! Can't leave out my Jamaican peeps. RSTP: Your Jamaican fans are missing your presence, should we hold our breaths or nah? (lol) NYANDA: Awww, I LOVE my Jamaican fans!!!! The Brick & Lace fans are the best!! As I said before I'll be making some appearances at home this summer...Jamaica mi a come!!! :-) RSTP: What are your top 3 summer style essentials? NYANDA: My must haves for the summer are: 1. A hot Bikini....with di Hot bikini body!! LOL 2. #Saxy lipgloss 3. A Stunner Shades. My preference is Versace RSTP: Where's your dream vacay spot this summer? NYANDA: I've always wanted to go to Fiji. Don't think I'll be going this summer but it's on my dream vacay list.
RSTP: What songs are on replay in your summer playlist right now? NYANDA: Wine and Kotch, Drunk in Love and I Love Sax of course
